Synology NAS and those pesky @eaDir folders

If you’ve enabled MediaServer and/or PhotoStation on your Synology NAS you might have noticed a bunch of “@eaDir” folders inside your data folders. You will not normally see this under samba or appletalk connections. via http://nerdlogger.com/2012/03/08/synology-nas-and-those-pesky-eadir-folders/

How To: Quick Way to Clear Up a Jammed Print Job

For one reason or another, a print job may get hung up and stop responding. You may be unable to print or even to cancel the job. One way to possibly clear up this problem is to use the Windows command line to stop and restart the printer spooler after flushing it. The services command “sc” or the “net” command can be used. Here are the steps using the services command: Open the command prompt. For Vista or 7, you will need administrator privileges. In the command prompt, type and enter   “sc stop spooler” (without quotes). Next type and enter the line below:        del /q /f /s "%SystemRoot%\system32\spool\printers\*.*" Then type and enter “sc start spooler” (without quotes). This procedure will clear out the Spooler and should allow you to continue with your printing. Note that this will not clear paper jams or mechanical problems. Credit: Techsupportalert.com

How To: Renaming IOS movie files using the Date and Time the movie was taken

here I am fanatical about storing my photos and home videos on my NAS using the date and time they were taken so that any media renderer will naturally sort them chronologically. It also takes any guesswork out of figuring out when the movie or photo was taken as it's simply the filename i.e. 20110824-100559 being 2011, August 24th @ 10:05:59 AM. See my other post here that shows how I use "Lupas Rename 2000" to automatically do this for hundreds (or even thousands) of photos in seconds. When I got an iPhone, things got complicated as I could not find anything that would read the EXIF information embedded in the iPhone MOV files and use this to rename the videos. It took weeks to work out a simple solution so I'm posting it here to assist others.

How To: Creating shortcut icons to Bookmarks, Downloads & Extensions in Chrome

I tweaked Chrome once using this method and knew it was dead easy and then I got a new laptop and forgot to back up my Chrome installation before wiping the drive. It took me 4+ hours to figure this out again so hopefully this will help others who want icons on their bookmarks bar to these common settings as shown below.
